Twas The Night Before Jesus

Dec 25

‘Twas the night before Jesus came,
when all through the house,
The Bibles were lain on the shelf without care
In hopes that JESUS would not come there;

The children were dressing to crawl into bed,
Not once ever kneeling or bowing a head.
And Mom in her rocker with baby on lap
Was watching the Late Show while I took a nap.

When out of the East there arose such a clatter,
I sprang to my feet to see what was the matter.
Away to the window I flew like a flash
Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash!

When, what to my wondering eyes should appear
But angels proclaiming that Jesus was here,
With a light like the sun sending forth a bright ray
I knew in a moment this must be THE DAY!

The light of His face made me cover my head
It was Jesus! returning just like He had said.
And though I possessed worldly wisdom and wealth,
I cried when I saw Him in spite of myself.

In the book of Life which He held in His hand
Was written the name of every saved man.
He spoke not a word as He searched for my name;
When He said “it’s not here” my head hung in shame.
The people whose names had been written with love
He gathered to take to His Father above,

With those who were ready He rose without a sound
While all the rest were left standing around.
I fell to my knees, but it was too late;
I had waited too long and thus sealed my fate.
I stood and I cried as they rose out of sight;
Oh, if only I had been ready tonight.

In the words of this poem the meaning is clear;
The coming of Jesus is drawing near.
There’s only one life and when comes the last call
We’ll find that the Bible was true after all.

“It is not for you to know the times or the season, which
the Father hath put in his power”. Acts 1:7

Jesus is the reason for the season.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

The Nativity Story

Dec 14

Last night Nate, Sara and I went to see “The Nativity Story” at the Bangor Cinemas which turned out to be a decent movie. The bulk of the movie was based on what was recorded in the Bible, from the book of Isaiah, Jeremiah, the four Gospels and some other books that mention the Prophecy of the Messiah and of course some of the events that took place during the movie were made up or speculated to add more content to the movie. If you study old maps the Middle East than it would make sense that the particular scenes I’m covertly talking about would take place, traveling from Nazareth to Bethlehem would incur the typical scenarios portrayed in the movie.

I was very pleased that the quotation of the Bible was very accurate between Mary, the Angel, Elizabeth and Joseph. The three Wise men were portrayed as they always are in the typical Nativity display, coming to give gifts of Gold, frankincense and Myrrh at Christ’s birth, contrary of what the Bible states- they came roughly a year later due to the length of their trip.I highly recommend seeing this movie to anyone, along with “The Passion of the Christ“.

Merry Christmas

Dec 12

It seems as I am getting older I am becoming more and more aware of certain things that I was oblivious to in the past, such as world’s secularization of the Christmas holiday and its true meaning. There are only a few stores I can name that still actually support the term “Merry Christmas”. Corporate American hides behind this very statement, “Not everyone celebrates Christmas and we must be respectful of their beliefs, also we are recognizing that there are other holiday’s in this time frame”. I agree, not everyone believes that God came to earth to live among us as a man for 33 years to die for our sins, but just because they don’t believe that doesn’t mean we have to change the name of Christmas to “Happy Holidays”.

It’s absurd to advertise products with Christmas themed music / pictures and then blatantly state “Happy Holidays” or Holiday gift- nobody purchases gifts for Thanksgiving and New Years. The real reason why the name is changed is because people don’t want to hear the name of Christ in a positive way; they don’t want to know the real reason of Christmas and reason for Easter. If you don’t believe in Christmas, why celebrate it or even the skewed version of it?
